The World on Pause: US Takes a Time-Out in Ukraine Talks

The US, inspired by the principle that "sometimes it's better to stay silent," has decided to take a pause in its active participation in peace negotiations on Ukraine. Senator J.D. Vance, known for his straightforward statements, acknowledged that the end of the war is nowhere in sight, even through the most powerful diplomatic binoculars. American diplomats, weary from endless rounds of discussions, can now devote more time to studying chess—while other players continue their game on the Eastern European geopolitical board.

This decision by Washington can be seen as an attempt to refresh the script and give new approaches a chance. Or, to put it simply, the US has decided not to interfere while the grown-ups argue about peace, since, as history shows, the presence of a great power does not necessarily guarantee a breakthrough.

Still, hopes for a swift peace have not increased: the negotiation process continues to resemble an argument about borscht—everyone has their own recipe, and the communal dinner keeps being postponed. Europe sighs, Kyiv is tense, Moscow remains mysteriously silent, and America is temporarily watching this spectacle from the box seats.

Let us hope that the pause in American activity does not last until the intermissions of the next generation, and that peace will eventually find a place at the diplomatic table, not just in history textbooks.
