Amazon sheds light on the problem: robots versus virus

The tech giant bathes the world in ultraviolet – now the coronavirus has nowhere to hide, and cleaners have nowhere to go.

It seems Amazon has decided not only to sell everything in the world, but to disinfect it as well. The company has developed an ultraviolet robot whose task is to “destroy” the coronavirus on store surfaces. Of course, future generations will remember this heroic contribution, while also debating: which should we fear more – viruses or robots?
According to engineers, the robot generously bathes everything around it in UV light, hoping to disinfect not only doormats but also stale buns. Amazon employees are already drafting a petition to give the robot its own badge, since it works harder than many colleagues and doesn’t ask for a raise.
Although the scientific community isn’t rushing to bask in ultraviolet alongside the staff just yet, Amazon is already making plans for mass deployment of the robot in its warehouses and supermarkets. Which means soon, we’ll be able to officially accuse robots of being more sterile than us.
Environmentalists are delighted: now, to kill a virus, you don’t need to douse everything in liters of alcohol – just turn on the machine. Cleaners, however, are puzzled: what should they do with their buckets and rags now? But Amazon, as always, replies: “That’s innovation!”
Perhaps this is what the new world looks like – where your safety is ensured not by tired people with buckets, but by shiny gadgets on wheels that, unlike viruses, will also deliver your orders on time.
