Boxing with a Calculator: Usyk and Dubois to Split £150 Million

In the world of professional boxing, it’s long been known: those who box well, eat well. But those who can count even better are sure to have bread with caviar. This summer, the wallets of two heavyweights, Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois, are set to swell even more than their biceps: the total purse for the upcoming rematch will be £150 million (over $200 million).

This is where math becomes far more important than a light jab. Usyk, who’s already worn the WBA, WBC, and WBO belts, will leave the ring not only as a champion, but also with £97.5 million ($132 million). Dubois will have to settle for a more modest—yet still impressive—£52.5 million ($71 million). With that kind of income, even losing doesn’t sting as much.

The split—65% for the Ukrainian, 35% for the Brit—fairly reflects the heavyweight pecking order. Usyk has already earned $114 million for his rematch with Tyson Fury alone. For Dubois, the previous financial peak was much less impressive: £4.6 million for the fight with Anthony Joshua, a few bonuses on top—bringing the total to just £13 million.

The decisive rematch will take place on July 19, 2025, at the legendary Wembley—a stadium that’s seen more great fights than many salary calculators. All four heavyweight titles will be on the line that night—a scenario almost unique in boxing history. The hype is astronomical: the fight will be broadcast in a hundred countries, and accountants are already stocking up on new spreadsheets to keep track of all the zeros.

The winner will fight not only for the title of undisputed champion, but also for the right to be the best-paid boxer of the season. The only question left: whose motivation will prove stronger—the chase for glory, or the temptation to count every last million?
